Siblings united by music since childhood, the members of Abraham Réunion blend jazz, Caribbean rhythms and classical music with a radiant energy that only they possess…
Music has always been child’s play in the Abraham family: Zacharie, the eldest (double bass), Cynthia, the middle child (voice), and Clélya, the youngest (piano), have always found joy in it. In recent years, they have each become indispensable in their respective spheres, with jazz as their common denominator. Highly sought-after in the studio, they have also established themselves on the French jazz scene, where their paths frequently crossed—so much so that the desire to join forces naturally emerged.
Under the name Abraham Réunion, the family dream team released its first self-titled album in 2021. With this record, they highlight their collective energy and their commitment to honouring the music of their Guadeloupean roots, while asserting a unique musical identity—an honest, sun-drenched jazz, rooted in tradition yet open to sonic exploration.
Whereas the first album was illuminated by the joy of reunion—almost painting the portrait of a perfect sibling bond—Jaden an nou casts new shadows, revealing a more nuanced reality. The garden in us: the title was chosen during a conversation whose recording appears as one of the album’s interludes. The idea came from the trio’s father. He is from Guadeloupe and, for his children born in mainland France, the Caribbean is both a land of musical experimentation and a source of increasingly profound questions about identity.
On Jaden an nou, the siblings openly reveal their weaknesses, fractures and anxieties in facing of an unbalanced world. Each expresses it in their own way, each through their own garden: Zacharie ponders life while tending the vegetable patch of his home counrty; Cynthia expresses rage over the consequences of the environmental crisis; Clélya explores her inner garden through meditation and psychology. Different yet united, they have woven together a shared narrative in which intimate reflections resonate with universal concerns—relying on the magic of music to bind everything together.
The garden of Abraham Réunion is abundant. It brings together Guadeloupean gwoka, Réunionese maloya, Brazilian drums, African-American jazz as well as the jazz of Mario Canonge and Alain Jean-Marie, and even the impressionist colours of Ravel and Debussy.
Zacharie, Cynthia and Clélya have always listened extensively to Danyèl Waro. The Réunionese master and craftsman of modern maloya is their guest of honour on Nailé and Batarsité, one of his emblematic 1987 songs on creoleness: “I am not White / No, I am not Black.”
Cynthia wrote all the lyrics— in French and Creole, with the help of their father for translations—while the trio shares the compositions.
They once again chose to call on multiple drummers for the recording (the Brazilian Zaza Desiderio and the Réunionese Japhet Boristhene) and to use around fifteen percussion instruments (whistles, konk a lambi, kayamb, sati, agogo, chacha, surdo, tambourines), underlining the importance of rhythm in their music. Quite an arsenal!
Spirituality and trance run through the album, carried by texts in French, Creole and sometimes without words. Underneath it all lies a beautiful testament to their sincere desire to imagine a world that honours all living things, with the same care one gives to cultivating a garden.
Zacharie discovered jazz at age 15 alongside Didier Lockwood within Thomas Enhco’s group. At the same time, he studied classical double bass at the Paris Conservatory (CNSM), where he earned his diploma at age 21. Very active on the international jazz scene, he has performed with many artists such as Vincent Peirani, Arnaud Dolmen and Archie Shepp.
A graduate of CMDL, Cynthia released her first album Petites voix at age 23. She has since multiplied artistic projects within the group Selkies and alongside artists such as Pierre De Bethmann, Anne Pacéo and Karl Jannuska… In 2018, she won first prize at the Unisa International Voice Competition in South Africa.
A highly creative pianist and composer, Clélya wrote most of the tracks on the album Abraham Réunion. She trained in violin and classical piano and earned her jazz piano diploma (DEM) at the Paris CRR. A member of Maë Defays’ group, she performs regularly on prestigious stages. Frequently sought after within the Paris jazz scene, she released Atacama, her debut album, in 2025. She was nominated for the 2025 Victoires du Jazz in the « Revelation of the Year » category.
