Kader Tarhanine, nicknamed ‘The Prince of the Desert’, is a major figure in contemporary Tuareg blues. An icon for Tuareg youth and the diaspora, he now performs on the world’s biggest stages.
Since his explosive debut in 2012, Kader Tarhanine has emerged as one of the most iconic voices of contemporary Tuareg blues. A true icon, he is now considered a major reference point for the new generation of Saharan artists. In less than a decade, he has conquered the stages of West Africa before attracting the attention of international programmers.
Born in 1989 in Niger to Malian parents, Abd Elkadir Sabou grew up in Tamanrasset (Algeria) in an environment steeped in Tuareg oral tradition. At a very young age, he became familiar with traditional instruments such as the tindé and the imzad. At the same time, he developed an affinity for the guitar, which he has been playing since the age of 7.
In 2012, he made a name for himself with the huge success of ‘Tarhanine Tegla’ (7 million views on YouTube). The hit was so big that he almost immediately became a key figure among Tuareg youth. The success of this first track earned him the nickname ‘Prince of the Desert’.
In 2017, Kader Tarhanine released Tenere, his first album recorded in Algiers, which laid the foundations for his artistic identity. In April 2018, his collaboration with Sidiki Diabaté caused a sensation in Mali with the music video of ‘Tarhanine’. The song cultivates a hope for dialogue and peace in a Mali divided between North and South.
Two years later, he reached a new level with Ikewane (Roots in Tamasheq), recorded between Bamako and Tamanrasset. This second album marked an opening towards the international scene and skilfully blended traditional Tuareg sounds, Malian blues and pop-rock textures. Surrounded by top-level musicians such as Badi Zein, Oumar Konaté and Djimé Sissoko, Kader Tarhanine crafts contemporary, rooted and global music. Sung in Tamasheq and Arabic, his repertoire explores universal themes such as love, exile and dignity. He gives voice to an entire Saharan generation in search of recognition and transmission…
First acclaimed on African stages (Mali, Niger, Mauritania, Senegal, etc.), which he toured for a decade, he is now in high demand internationally. An ambassador for Tuareg culture, he now embodies the vitality of a thousand-year-old culture in transition and builds bridges between Saharan oral traditions and contemporary aesthetics. His art, both rooted and universal, makes him an essential artist.

« Young, open-minded, and curious, Kader has been able to integrate the cultural sounds of neighboring cultures into the Tuareg world in record time, evolving toward fusions much more quickly than his elders in other groups from the same cultural movement. Young people love his energetic stage performances because Kader speaks to them about their globalized era. Having become the idol and symbol of the young Tuareg generation, Kader has a bright future ahead of him and all the assets he needs to help the world (re)discover, in a revamped and renewed style, the poetic and romantic spirit of the Tuareg in particular, and the Sahara in general. »
