After a Caribbean trilogy, Samy Thiébault has released In Waves, which is as much a documentary journey as a mythological saga. It’s an odyssey peopled by real men and women, sea creatures and ancient gods to whom sailors once turned for protection. ‘Na pua ri ki te va ka’, the Polynesians used to sing before launching their pirogue into the water. ‘This is my boat, let the ocean be my boat’. Among these sailors, Cynthia Abraham, François Ladrezeau, Armelle Cippe and her choir are a link between the waves and the divine. They speak the language of the ocean and sing of the first sailors who populated the Pacific between 4000 and 1500 BC…
